Playoffs? Are you Talking About Playoffs?

Less then two days after Auburn was crowned College Football’s National Champion the playoff debate started. Then I read a long absurd facebook post from Mark Cuban yesterday about his way to fix College football and create a playoff system. I will spare you all the wild ass details. Let’s just say in typical Cuban fashion it was really tricked up and very unrealistic.

On the Sports Daddy Podcast heard on Bigbadsportsdaddy.com I present a way for NCAA to fix College football now without changing it all that much. The Larry Stanley System is real simple and most of all realistic. Are you ready for me to rock your sports brain? Have each conference create their own playoff system. OMG Larry Stanley you are a freaking genius! It’s no wonder you earned a nickname like Professor L-Train!

How simple is that? For instance this year in the Big 12 Nebraska and OU played for the Championship. However Texas A&M beat both those teams yet they didn’t get a chance to win the conference or to play for the title. So why not add OSU in the mix and have a 4 team single elimination round robin for the Big 12 Championship. Round 1 could look like this

1. OU vs 4. OSU
2. Nebraska vs 3. Texas A&M

Then the two winners play for the Big 12 Championship. Would there be any debate who is the best team in the Big 12 it is all said and done? Hell No!

You would need to get all the auto qualifiers on board which shouldn’t be a problem if you tell them they will make more cash money doing it this way, Imagine a playoff like tournament in the SEC,Pac 10,Big 10,Big 12, ACC, and the Big East. The greatest thing is there is already a blue print to go by. I’m going let you in on a little secret. It already works in College Basketball .

This scenario would keep the current BCS system in place. You know that system the NCAA seems to love so much but everyone else hates. It would also generate more revenue by adding another game to each conference. The Bowl System would stay exactly like it is. So why not do it? It makes way to much sense that’s why!

I know some of you are going to say what about the non automatic qualifiers? Well this is where it gets a little tricky. They could either create a conference playoff or join up and make a cross conference playoff. Let’s say Conference USA and the Mountain West want to combine forces to try to create a stronger contender they could take the top two or three teams from each conference and put them in a round robin. Look at that problem solve.

Another rebuttal against the Larry Stanley College Football solution maybe it adds a extra week to the season. Well fix that too eliminate a non conference week. OMG again I’m showing my genius..

I would like to see the NCAA show some balls and step and govern teams non conference schedule. I think you should be required to play one or two similar rank teams. You can base this on the final BCS standings of the year before. For instance Wisconsin you do get to play South East Canada State in week 3, you have to play Texas A&M. Hey Ohio State you don’t get to play Lake Erie University in week 4. No.No.No…..Buckeyes have you meet the TCU Horned Frogs? Here they are play them,.

This would require the NCAA to get off their asses an actually do something but for the most part it’s wishful reasonable thinking. What the hell do I know? I’m just one college football fan with not so radical ideas. ]

TCU Frogs Redemption

When the 2010 football season kicks off for your TCU Frogs Saturday night they will have one thing on their mind and that is redemption! The Fiesta Bowl loss was a very hard pill to swallow for the Frogs and their fans. In 2010 anything less then perfect will be unacceptable.
The Frogs aren’t messing around! On Saturday night they are going to face off with a very good Oregon State team at the Death Star in Arlington. This is a huge gamble for a TCU team that must go undefeated again to get any kind of BCS respect. Sorry but one mark in the L column and your BCS dreams are over Frogs. The big question is if they do beat Oregon State and run the table will they play for a National Title? Sadly the answer is no. It’s nothing personal because the same goes for Boise State. Here’s the part of the blog where I should go on a rant about College Football Playoffs but I refuse to do that. Everyone in the Milky Way galaxy and even the rebels on Hoth know there should be a playoffs but there is nothing we can do.

So what can we expect from Gary Patterson’s Boys this year? Realistically I think they go undefeated again. Andy Dalton is back and is pissed! No one took the Fiesta loss harder. Andy is going to lead the purple and black with a big chip on his shoulder in 2010 as he should. For the first time since LT there is Heisman talk in Cowtown. It’s a long shot but there are quite murmurs.

However Dalton is going to need some help this season if wants to lead the Frogs to the Promise Land. The big play threat wide receiver Antoine Hicks and sophomore running back Ed Wesley will have to do their part on the business side of the ball to keep that O clicking. There is no doubt in my mind that they will!

We haven’t even got to the 2008 & 2009 Nations best Defense yet. The Horned Frogs return 7 starters and are ready to complete the Triple Crown and claim the Nations best D once again.

TCU will be challenged by the Beavers Saturday night. They also will have to stay focus to keep a quickly improving SMU team from sneaking up on them on Sept 24. In conference the road to undefeated will be tough especially when the Frogs travel to PAC 10 defecting Utah in November. On the bright side the other two tough Mountain West teams (BYU and Air Force)come to Fort Worth.

Do I think the Frogs will go undefeated again? Here’s a Big Bad Texas Hell YES!

I think it will be a great time to be a Frogs fan in 2010! If you are not going to the game Saturday join BigBadSportsDaddy at The All Star Sports Bar and Grill in Fort Worth for a TCU Frogs Kick off party! Larry Stanley, Eric Ringel and the Legendary Scott Gains will be broadcasting a live pregame show from 5:30-6:30 right here on BBSD. Then stick around for the game and rock with the post game concert. What better way to celebrate the start of another perfect season then by partying with your friends at BBSD?
